EMDR
EMDR Therapy in Hawaii
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapeutic approach that is well researched and helps individuals process experiences that may be stored in a way that continues to impact present-day life.
Honestly, within my early work as a therapist doing talk therapy, I approached EMDR with skepticism. It can sound unusual at first to some. But after seeing how powerfully it helped clients break through long-standing patterns, I pursued formal training and began integrating it into my work.
EMDR is not a quick fix or a silver bullet. It is a tool, one that allows us to access deeper layers of experience that traditional talk therapy sometimes struggles to reach. The basic premise is that our bodies and nervous systems hold onto stress, trauma, and repeated emotional experiences. When we utilize EMDR within sessions, it helps the nervous system integrate those experiences, often reducing their grip on day-to-day life.
I do not rush into EMDR with clients. We begin by building a strong therapeutic foundation and ensuring you feel prepared. When we do engage in this work, it is done intentionally and collaboratively. While I continue to use CBT, DBT-informed strategies, and mindfulness practices, EMDR is often one of the most effective tools for unlocking meaningful, lasting change and because of this, I tend to use it with most of my clients.
If you have further questions regarding EMDR or this type of therapeutic approach, I'd be more than happy to discuss them during a consult or within our initial session.
